Porta Potty 28-Day Billing, Explained

Job-site and monthly porta potty rentals don't bill by the calendar month. Here is how the cycle works and how to avoid paying for one you don't need.

By Robert, owner. Reviewed October 22, 2026.

Why do porta potty rentals bill every 28 days?

Porta potty rentals bill every 28 days because service runs weekly, and 28 days is exactly four service visits. Every cycle includes the same four cleanings. That makes 13 cycles in a year instead of 12 months, and every invoice lines up with the same weekly service day.

Why is the first invoice higher?

The first porta potty invoice is higher because it includes the one-time delivery charge. Every later cycle is the base rental with weekly service. Pickup is billed once, when the unit leaves. Nothing else is added unless you ask for extra service visits.

How do you stop the billing?

Stop porta potty billing by calling or emailing to schedule pickup. Units are not picked up automatically, and each cycle renews on the card on file. Call a day before the next cycle starts if the job is wrapping up.

Worked example: a 10-week renovation

A 10-week renovation that starts on March 2 uses three 28-day cycles. Cycle 1 runs March 2 to March 29 and includes delivery. Cycle 2 runs March 30 to April 26. Cycle 3 starts April 27, so a May 11 pickup is billed as a full third cycle, plus the one-time pickup charge.

Hypothetical example. Your invoice shows your exact dates.
CycleDatesWhat it includes
1Mar 2 – Mar 29Rental, 4 weekly cleanings, one-time delivery
2Mar 30 – Apr 26Rental, 4 weekly cleanings
3Apr 27 – May 24Rental and cleanings until pickup on May 11, plus pickup charge

Is a 28-day cycle cheaper than a calendar month?

A 28-day cycle is not cheaper or more expensive by itself; it just matches the weekly cleaning schedule. Over a full year you pay for 13 cycles instead of 12 months. Comparing quotes, multiply each company's rate by its number of billing periods in your project.

Questions renters ask

Can I pay for several cycles up front?

Long projects can be paid cycle by cycle on the card on file. Business customers who want one invoice for a whole project can ask when they book.

What if I move the unit to a new address mid-cycle?

Moving a unit to a new address is a new delivery. The current cycle keeps running, and the move is billed as a delivery charge.
