Do food vendors at a Rockland event need handwashing on site?

Food vendors at Rockland County events need a Temporary Food Service Establishment permit from the Rockland County Department of Health. The county's packet says handwashing facilities must be present at each site. Plan on one handwashing station near each cluster of food stands, separate from the stations by the toilets.

  • The county asks for the application at least 5 days before the event.
  • Applications that arrive after noon on the business day before the event are not processed.
  • Our handwashing stations use a foot pump, so vendors with gloved or messy hands never touch a faucet.

Who do you call for a permit in Rockland: the town or the village?

Rockland County permits depend on whether the site is inside an incorporated village. Villages such as Nyack, Suffern and Spring Valley run their own offices. Hamlets such as New City, Nanuet and Pearl River fall under their town. Spring Valley is unusual: Rockland County's Office of Buildings and Codes has handled its building permits.

  • Check your tax bill or the town website to learn if your address is in a village.
  • A unit on private land usually needs no street permit at all.
  • A unit on a village or town street needs approval from that municipality, which the customer gets.

Does the county health department regulate day camps in Rockland?

Rockland County day camps and sleepaway camps are inspected and permitted by the Rockland County Department of Health. Inspectors look at grounds and activities before and during the season. Toilet and handwashing counts for a camp are set by state code, so confirm your numbers with the county before you book portable units.

  • Camps that add a field, pool area or overflow site often rent units for that spot only.
  • Book camp units for the full season so weekly service runs on a steady schedule.
  • Ask for a handwashing station next to any snack or lunch area.

Rockland County porta potty questions

Do your trucks use the Palisades Parkway to reach Rockland?

Commercial trucks are not allowed on the Palisades Interstate Parkway, so our trucks use the Thruway over the Mario Cuomo Bridge and then Route 59, Route 303, Route 304 or 9W. That rarely changes your delivery window. It can matter if your site is only easy to reach from a parkway exit, so share the cross street.

Can you place a unit at a hillside home in Pomona or Stony Point?

Steep lots in the Ramapo and Hudson Highlands foothills are common in Rockland. We need a level, firm pad and a truck within about 25 feet of it. A flat spot near the top of the driveway usually works better than the backyard. Send a photo of the spot if you are unsure.

How early should I book for Rockland graduation parties in June?

June weekends fill fast across Rockland because graduations, communions and backyard parties land on the same dates. Booking two or three weeks out gives you the best choice of units. Weekend party units usually arrive Friday and leave Monday, so you never wait on a truck during the party.

Do you serve the river towns like Haverstraw and Piermont?

Haverstraw, West Haverstraw, Piermont and Stony Point are all inside our regular Rockland routes. River-town streets are narrow and parking is tight, so tell us about low wires, tight turns or a shared driveway. We will plan the truck approach before delivery day.
