Porta Potty Rental Questions & Answers
78 straight answers to the questions renters ask before booking: delivery, cost, units, cleaning, placement, pickup and cancellations.
Delivery & timing
How fast can I get a porta potty?
The fastest option is same-day delivery, which works when you call early and a truck has room. Next-day delivery is easier to get. For weekend events, book a few days ahead and take a Friday drop.
What time will the driver come?
Deliveries run between 7 AM and 7 PM, Monday through Saturday. We can't promise an exact hour, but we note any preferred window, and the driver calls before arriving.
Can you guarantee delivery before 8 AM?
An exact early-morning time can't be guaranteed because routes change with traffic and earlier stops. The safe plan is delivery the day before your start, so the unit is waiting when the crew arrives.
Will the driver call before he comes?
The driver calls ahead, usually 30 minutes to an hour before arriving. If nobody answers, he places the unit at the marked spot and we send a note once it's done.
How far ahead should I book?
Two to three weeks ahead is ideal for June weekends, graduation season and July 4th. Most other dates book easily a few days out. Restroom trailers for wedding Saturdays should be booked months ahead.
Do you deliver on Saturdays?
Trucks run Saturday as well as weekdays. Saturday slots fill first, so most weekend events take a Friday delivery instead.
Do you deliver or pick up on Sundays?
Trucks don't run on Sundays. A Sunday event gets a Friday or Saturday delivery and a Monday pickup.
Can you drop it off and pick it up the same day?
A same-day drop and pickup is possible for venues that only allow vendors on the event day. It takes two truck trips in one day, so it costs more than the standard Friday-to-Monday window.
Can you deliver the day before my event?
Day-before delivery is the normal plan for events. It gives you a working unit for setup and keeps the truck away during the party.
I don't have an exact date yet. Can I still get a quote?
You can get a quote with a rough date. Once the date is set, call back to lock in the truck and unit.
Pricing & payment
Is the price per day or for the whole weekend?
An event price covers the whole event window, usually Friday delivery to Monday pickup. Job-site and monthly units are priced per 28-day cycle.
Does the price include delivery and pickup?
Delivery and pickup are listed on every quote. Event prices include both. Monthly rentals show the one-time delivery on the first invoice and pickup on the last.
Is the price per unit?
Each unit has its own price, but extra units on the same delivery cost less than the first because they share the truck trip.
Are there any hidden fees?
A quote from us lists every charge before you pay: unit, delivery, pickup, servicing, tax and any same-day or extra-service fee. If something isn't on the quote, you don't pay it.
Is sales tax included?
Sales tax is shown as its own line on the quote. Tax-exempt organizations can send their exemption certificate before booking.
How do I pay?
Pay by credit or debit card when you book. We email an itemized invoice and receipt you can keep or send to an insurer or office.
Do I pay a deposit or the full amount?
The full rental is paid when you book; there's no separate deposit. Monthly rentals renew on the same card every 28 days.
Can I pay by check, cash or purchase order?
First rentals are paid by card. Businesses, schools and agencies with repeat rentals can ask about invoicing or a purchase order.
Why does the first month cost more than the next?
The first 28-day cycle includes the one-time delivery charge. Later cycles are the base rental and weekly service only.
Is there a discount for more than one unit?
Multiple units on one delivery are priced lower per unit. Ask for the total on the call.
Can I get a written quote for my boss or committee?
We email a written, itemized quote. Many renters forward it for approval and call back to book.
Units & what's inside
What comes with a standard porta potty?
A standard porta potty has a toilet seat over a sealed tank, a urinal, toilet paper, a hand sanitizer dispenser, a roof vent and an inside lock with an occupied sign.
Do you have a porta potty with a sink inside?
We rent a flushing unit with a foot-pump sink inside. It needs no hose or power.
What does flushable mean on a porta potty?
A flushable porta potty has a fresh-water tank and a foot pedal or hand pump that rinses the bowl. Waste still goes to a sealed tank; there is no plumbing connection.
Should I get a sink unit or a separate handwashing station?
One handwashing station can serve 4 or 5 standard units, so it usually costs less than upgrading every unit. A sink unit fits better when you only need one restroom.
Does the sink need a water hookup?
Sink units and handwashing stations carry their own fresh-water tanks. We fill them before delivery and refill them at service.
Do you have handicap porta potties?
We rent wheelchair-accessible units with a ground-level floor, wide door, grab bars and room to turn a wheelchair.
Which unit has the most room inside?
The wheelchair-accessible unit is the roomiest by far. Parents with small kids and guests with walkers often prefer it.
Do you rent luxury restroom trailers?
We rent restroom trailers with flushing toilets, sinks, lights and climate control, in 2-stall and larger sizes.
Does the restroom trailer need water and power?
A restroom trailer needs a standard outdoor outlet and a garden hose, or a generator and onboard water tank that we can add.
Can I lock the porta potty?
Every unit locks from the inside. Job-site units also take a padlock on the outside; give the driver the combination for service.
Are the units new and clean looking?
Event renters get our better-looking units, kept separate from job-site units. Every unit is washed and restocked before it leaves the yard.
Do you sell porta potties?
We rent units only. Renting includes delivery, cleaning and waste disposal, which owners have to arrange themselves.
Cleaning & servicing
Is cleaning included?
Cleaning is included. Event units arrive clean and are pumped after pickup. Rentals of a week or longer get weekly service at no extra charge.
How often do you clean a job-site porta potty?
Job-site units are serviced once a week on a fixed day. Large crews can add a second weekly service.
Do you clean the porta potty during my event?
One-day event units aren't serviced mid-event because they start clean and empty. Multi-day events can book a service visit between days.
Can I get cleaning every other week to save money?
Every-other-week service is available for light-use sites, such as a farm or a seasonal field, at a lower rate.
What does a service visit include?
Pump-out, scrubbing, fresh deodorizer and restocking. See how cleaning works.
Placement & access
Where can the porta potty go?
On firm, level ground within about 25 feet of where the truck can park. Read the placement and permit guide.
Can it go on grass?
A porta potty can go on firm, level grass a short way from the driveway. The truck stays on pavement, so the unit can't go deep into a lawn.
Can it go on a slope?
Small slopes can be leveled with shims or plywood. Steep yards need a flat spot, often the driveway.
Do I need to be there at delivery?
You don't need to be there. Mark the spot with a cone, chair or taped X, and add gate codes and notes to the order.
How do I show the driver where to put it?
Mark the spot on site and describe it on the order. A photo or map pin with an X helps on farms and big lots.
Will it fit through my side gate?
A standard unit fits through a gate that opens about 45 inches or wider. Accessible units and trailers need a driveway or open approach.
Can the door face a certain way?
Tell us which way the door should face and the driver will set it that way, usually away from the street or crowd.
It's a gated venue. Do I need to meet the driver?
Give us the gate code or an on-site contact. If the gate is locked and nobody answers, the driver can't place the unit.
Can it go on the street?
A unit on a public street or sidewalk usually needs a city permit. Most renters use the driveway instead.
What size is the delivery truck?
The truck is about the size of a heavy-duty pickup with a flatbed. It needs a clear, firm path and no branches or wires lower than about 13 feet.
Events, parties & weddings
How many porta potties do I need for 50 people?
One standard unit covers 50 guests for up to five hours; add 1 for alcohol. Use the calculator for other numbers.
How many for 1,000 people?
About 20 standard units for a five-hour event, plus 10 for alcohol and 10 for a longer event. Large public events may also have health department rules.
We don't want guests using the house bathroom. What do you suggest?
One standard unit per 50 guests near the yard, plus a handwashing station if food is served, keeps traffic out of the house.
We have a septic system. Should we rent?
Renting is smart with a septic system. A big party can overload a septic tank and cause a backup that costs far more than a rental.
Can the unit stay from Friday rehearsal through Saturday wedding?
Units stay the whole event window. Delivery before the rehearsal and Monday pickup is common.
Can I cancel if the weather is bad?
Cancellations 48 hours or more before delivery get a full refund. See the rental terms for the other windows.
Do you deliver to public parks?
We deliver to parks when the event is approved by the park. Many parks require a permit that sets the number of restrooms.
Construction & job sites
How much is a job-site porta potty per month?
Job-site units are billed every 28 days with weekly cleaning. See the cost guide for typical ranges.
How many porta potties does my crew need?
OSHA requires at least 1 for 20 or fewer workers. We recommend 1 per 10 workers. See the OSHA guide.
Is there a charge if we finish early?
The current 28-day cycle isn't prorated. Call for pickup as soon as you finish so a new cycle doesn't start.
Can you deliver before the crew arrives?
We can deliver a day or more before your start date so the unit is waiting.
The site has no address. Can you still deliver?
Send a map pin or GPS coordinates and the nearest cross street. Mark the spot on site.
Can you service it twice a week?
Twice-weekly service is available for large crews or heavy use.
Do you take purchase orders?
Repeat business customers can ask about purchase orders and invoicing after their first card-paid rentals.
Home, renovation & emergencies
Our water is being shut off. Can you help?
Call with the date and address. A short rental covers a day-long shutoff. See water shutoff tips.
Our sewer line broke and the repair is next week. What should we rent?
One standard unit, or a sink unit if you have kids, on a one-week rental. Add a week if the repair slips.
Can I get a receipt for insurance?
Every rental comes with an itemized emailed invoice you can send to your insurer.
Can I rent a porta potty for my pool area?
Many pool owners rent one for the summer to keep wet feet out of the house. A monthly rental includes weekly service.
The power is out at our venue and the bathrooms don't work. Can you come now?
Call right away. A standard unit is the quickest to send, and same-day works when a truck is open.
Pickup, extensions & cancellations
When do you pick up after my event?
Event units are picked up the next business day, usually Monday for weekend parties.
Can I set the pickup date now?
You can set the pickup date when you book. For monthly rentals, call when you're done instead.
I need it a few more days. Can I extend?
Call before the scheduled pickup. Extensions are added at the daily or cycle rate shown on your quote.
How do I stop a monthly rental?
Call or email to schedule pickup. Billing stops on the pickup date; units are never removed automatically.
What is your cancellation policy?
Full refund 48 hours or more before delivery, 50% between 48 and 24 hours, no refund inside 24 hours or after a same-day dispatch. Full details: rental terms.
What if the driver can't place the unit?
If the site is blocked, locked or unsafe and the unit can't be placed, a trip fee may apply. Clear notes and a marked spot prevent this.

Do you serve my town?
We deliver about 80 miles from Yonkers. Check your ZIP on the service areas page.
Where are you located?

Is this a local company or a call center?
Sure Portable Toilets is a local company run by Robert. When you call, you reach the people who schedule the trucks.
Do you deliver to New Jersey and Connecticut?
We deliver to Bergen, Hudson and Passaic counties in New Jersey and Fairfield County, CT.
I've never rented one before. How does it work?
